FOR STARTERS
The Cajuns will look to get back onto the winning side of things after two consecutive losses and close out the month of January when they take on Texas State on Saturday afternoon, the first meeting of the season against the Bobcats.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns held a 10-point halftime lead, but for the second time this year could not hold it as South Alabama once again caught fire in the second period to complete the season sweep of the Cajuns with a 89-85 win at the Mitchell Center on Thursday night.

It was just the second time in 11 tries that Louisiana has not pulled out a win after holding a lead at the midway point, with both of those defeats coming at the hands of the Jaguars who have won six of the last seven meetings between the teams.

South Alabama shot 62.5 percent in the second period - after shooting 66.7 percent in the second period in the teams first meeting - and owned the glass after the Cajuns had held a 19-10 advantage on the boards in the first period. Shawn Long did all he could to keep the Cajuns in the game, scoring 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second period.

Louisiana trailed by seven points with a minute remaining, but the Jaguars missed three of their first eight foul shots in the final minute while Long nailed a pair of threes to get UL to within 84-81 with 31 seconds left. But Cajuns missed a three, turned it over and then the Jags hit their last four foul shots to close the game.

UP NEXT
Louisiana returns home for a pair of home games next week, starting Thursday against Appalachian State before hosting UT Arlington in a game to be aired nationally on ESPN2.

QUICK HITS
• Shawn Long's is 26-for-32 (.813) from the free throw line in his last five games. He is averaging 23.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in those games, while shooting .548 from the field and .529 from three.

• Each of the two highest allowed field goal percentages and three-point percentages of the season by a Cajun opponent have come from South Alabama. The Jaguars shot .583 on Jan. 29 and .552 on Jan. 17 from the field. They also shot .583 (7-for-12) on Jan. 29 and .529 (9-for-17) from three-point range.

• Thursday was the 11th time this season the Cajuns have held a halftime lead, winning nine of those games. Each of the two losses came at the hands of South Alabama with the Jaguars overcoming a nine-point lead in Lafayette and a 10-point lead in Mobile.

• The Cajuns pulled in 37 rebounds against the Jaguars, with 20 coming on the offensive end. It is the first time the Cajuns have had more offensive rebounds than defensive this season, and the first time since December 30, 2010 against Denver that they have lost a game when doing so.
