Veal, Wilridge Receive College Sports Madness Honors

LAFAYETTE -- Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball senior guards Keke Veal and Kia Wilridge earned Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team honors by College Sports Madness.

Veal, a native of Opelousas, La., finished the 2014-15 season as the Cajuns leading scorer with 14.9 points per game has led Louisiana in scoring in each of her three seasons. Her performance on the court last season garnered All-Sun Belt Third Team honors and a spot on the All-Louisiana Women's Basketball Third Team. She was also named the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) MVP after averaging a team-high 21.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest, helping lead the Cajuns to the 2015 WBI Championship.

Wilridge, a native of Crowley, La., averaged 12.3 points and was a pillar on the Louisiana defense, becoming the first Cajun to record at least 100 steals in a season since Kim Perrot during the 1989-90 campaign. She was also tied for the second-most blocked shots with seven. Wilridge joined Veal on the All-Sun Belt Third Team and was also named All-Louisiana Women's Basketball Honorable Mention.

The Cajuns, a team that finished 23-12 last season, return nine letterwinners, including five starters. They open the 2015-16 season with an exhibition matchup against LSU-Alexandria on Nov. 9.
