Bobcats Pull Away From Cajuns in Second Half in 4-2 Win

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead 14 minutes into the match, but the visiting Texas State Bobcats stormed back, scoring four unanswered goals, leaving Lafayette with a 4-2 victory on Friday evening at the Cajuns Soccer Complex.

Cajuns (8-7-2, 2-4-1 SBC) junior midfielder Natalie Newman collected her second goal of the season in the sixth minute, depositing a shot from the center of the fieldn from nearly 20 yards away to put Louisiana ahead, 1-0.

At the 14-minute mark, sophomore forward Ashleigh Cade scored for the second time in as many matches, gathering a shot off her own rebound and beating Texas State goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart to give the Cajuns a two-score advantage.

The Bobcats cut the Cajuns' lead in half in the 38^th minute when Lynsey Curry sliced a shot into the right corner of the Cajuns net, her seventh goal of the season.

Curry scored again a little more than 4 ½ minutes later to knot the match at 2 apiece.

Texas State scored the eventual match winner in the 65^th minute when Curry set up Maddie Nichols for a shot inside the box.

The Cajuns recorded four saves on the evening to Texas State's two.

Louisiana closes out its 2015 regular season home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 18 for a noon first kick with Appalachian State. Seniors Caroline Trahan, Elizabeth Manuel, Lindsey Stocks and Claire Ruehle will be honored prior to the match.
