LAKE CHARLES – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team plays the first of its four remaining road matches on the 2015 schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 20 facing McNeese State in a 7 p.m., match at Memorial Gym in Lake Charles.

The match also represents the final non-conference contest of the season for the Ragin' Cajuns (5-17). Louisiana seeks to end a four-match losing streak.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Cowgirls (8-13) are meeting for the first time since August 2012 when Louisiana won in straight sets at Earl K. Long Gym. It's the first matchup at Memorial Gym in Lake Charles since the 2009 season.

Head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot's team is coming off a pair of losses at Long Gym last weekend. Georgia Southern hit .248 and threw up 14 blocks in claiming a four-set win on Friday, then Troy overcame the Cajuns' .212 hitting percentage and 14 blocks to win in five sets on Saturday.

Louisiana is in its second full week with Keely Hayes at setter. Hayes took over the position after Jessica Bartczyszyn suffered a hand injury in practice prior to the South Alabama contest. Utilizing the dump kill, Hayes adds to the Cajuns offense as evidenced by 14 kills over nine sets on the GASO-Troy homestand.

Freshman Hanna Rovira, like Nia Antoine in the latter part of September, is finding a spot in the six-player rotation at right side hitter. She's coming off a weekend in which she paced the Ragin' Cajuns with 2.67 kills per set on a .227 hitting percentage, highlighted by a career-high 16 kills vs. Troy.

Senior Sara Mossakowski is expected to miss Tuesday's contest as she receives treatment for a lingering back injury. The Frisco, Texas, native leads the team with 2.37 kills per set for the season and has reached at least eight kills in 12 of 15 matches started.

The Cajuns can rely on St. Martinville's Chanelle Gardner who ranks second at 2.31 kills per set and Chole Cordell, who has averaged 1.90 kills per set over the past two weeks, for offense.

The tandem of Sydney Davis (3.20 digs/set) and Stacey Reilly (2.67 digs/set) guides the Cajuns on the back row.

McNeese has an active three-match win streak. The Cowgirls have won four of their last five matches including back-to-back straight set wins over Texas Southern and Nicholls State last week.
Senior outside hitter Malina Sanchez continues to pace the Cowgirls with 230 kills for an average of 2.84 per set. Sanchez is also second on the team in digs with 205 and service aces with 17. Bridget Justis has a team high 326 digs for an average of 3.98 per set and 18 service aces.

The Cajuns have won four of the previous five meetings with the Cowgirls, all under the direction of Mazeitis-Fontenot. McNeese head coach Ashleigh Fitzgerald coaches against Louisiana for the first time.

None of the current Ragin' Cajuns played in the last meeting, a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-12) UL win on Aug. 31, 2012, at Long Gym. Sanchez, Kelly Graham and Amber Fryer – all seniors – remain on the Cowgirls roster.
