MONROE – The first stop on a three-match road trip for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team this week occurs Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe against in-state, Sun Belt Conference foe ULM.

The contest, a rematch of a 3-2 (19-25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-25, 15-13) ULM win at Earl K. Long Gym on Sept. 25, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Following Wednesday's match, the Ragin' Cajuns (4-13, 0-5 Sun Belt) continue the road trip in Mobile, Ala., on Friday, Oct. 9 at South Alabama and in Troy, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 10 against Troy.

"Right now, we could still have a winning record in conference," head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot said. "We want to make sure that our team keeps working in an environment that allows them to be successful. We want to be more demanding, and less accepting of the same errors, but at the same time keep them moving forward."

Both the Cajuns and Warhawks (11-7, 2-2 Sun Belt) seek to rebound from straight set losses to Arkansas State and Appalachian State last weekend.

For Louisiana, it's a chance to begin a road win streak. The Cajuns were victorious in their last road contest, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Southeastern Louisiana in five sets on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The Warhawks, playing in only their fourth match this season at Fant-Ewing Coliseum, are searching for their first home win.

The earlier meeting between the two teams was evenly played, as each posted identical numbers in kills (59) and digs (78) and the Warhawks held a slight .231-.223 advantage in hitting percentage. Louisiana's Chanelle Gardner led all players with a career-high 20 kills on a .548 hitting percentage while Taylor Zaeske led ULM with 19 kills on 48 swings.

The Cajuns, who had raised their hitting percentage each time out in the previous three matches prior to playing ASU and App State, seek to rebound from being held to .085 over six sets of play last weekend.

Sara Mossakowski continues to lead the Louisiana offense averaging 2.55 kills per set. Gardner is a close second at 2.51 kills per set and sports a team-best .296 season hitting percentage. Katey Kyle contributes 1.92 kills per set and Nia Antoine has emerged as another offensive threat producing nearly two kills per set since joining the rotation back on Sept. 20 at Texas State.

Libero Sydney Davis tops the team in total digs (200) averaging 3.33 digs per set. Stacey Reilly, a threat offensively, has also had a significant impact on the back row notching digs at an average of 3.32 per set.

ULM has two of the Top 5 athletes in the SBC in service aces per set in Bayleigh Hoffman (0.49/1st) and junior Hadley Swartz (0.38/4th) and ranks second in the league in opponents' hitting percentage (.165).

Hope Pawlik spearheads the Warhawk attack at 2.98 kills per set followed by Zaeske (2.62), Swartz (2.30) and Kaitlyn Shearer (1.95). Zaeske (2.85 digs/set) and libero Tara Jenkins (2.84 digs/set) are ULM's defensive leaders.

NOTEWORTHY
KEY STRETCH: The next two weeks of play, which includes five Sun Belt matches, could be the deciding factor in the Cajuns' Sun Belt Tournament hopes. The team has a chance to make up ground as they face teams grouped with them from sixth place downward in the standings.

THE 700 CLUB: Senior Sara Mossakowski climbed above 700 career kills last Tuesday at Southeastern La. She now has 720 career kills and needs 135 more to reach the rally scoring era Top 5 list.

SELECT COMPANY: Chanelle Gardner's 252 career blocks places her fourth in the rally scoring era Top 5. The group includes: Kim Rodgers (396), Mandi Gavin (290), Lesley Mirarchi (280), Gardner (252) and Elizabeth Inman/Stacy Liverett (245).

WARHAWK NEMESIS: In her last two outings vs. ULM, Chanelle Gardner has thrown down 34 kills on just 63 swings (34 K, 9 E, 63 TA, .397%).

NIFTY NIA: Freshman Nia Antoine (Lafayette, La./Acadiana HS) has been part of the rotation the past five matches and has delivered. She's thrown down 36 kills, on 81 swings, to the tune of a .346 hitting percentage.

YOU CAN COUNT ON ME: Senior Katey Kyle has been a consistent source of offense, supplementing the efforts of Sara Mossakowski and Chanelle Gardner. Kyle has produced at least eight kills in a match eight times in 17 outings. She needs two more kills to reach 100 this season.

ALL-AROUND EFFORT: Setter Jessica Bartczyszyn isn't confined to her primary duties. The redshirt sophomore ranks second on the team in blocks (24) and third on the team in total digs (107).

FRESHMAN IMPACT: Sydney Davis averages 3.33 digs per set and has claimed the libero jersey. Julia Pasch ranks third on the squad with 20 blocks (1 BS, 19 BA). Hanna Rovira posted a school-record .900 hitting percentage (9 K, 0 E, 10 TA) vs. Southern. Nia Antoine is hitting .346 and averaging nearly two kills per set the past five outings.

CLOSER TO SECOND: Head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot is five wins shy of sole possession of second place on the program's victories list. Her 107 wins have her chasing Sherry LeBas (111) for second, then Wilo Colon (136) for the lead.

ULM SERIES NOTABLES: Louisiana leads the all-time series 43-20…Last two meetings have gone to five sets…Ragin' Cajuns won six straight meetings, sweeping the Warhawks from 2012-14, prior to ULM's five-set win at Earl K. Long Gym on Sept. 25…Louisiana holds a 15-4 edge in matches played as Sun Belt Conference foes (2006-15)…Cajuns seek to avoid being swept by the Warhawks for the first time since 2011…Louisiana has won the last three meetings in Monroe, each time in straight sets.
