LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team begins a regular season-ending, three-match homestand on Friday, Nov. 6 hosting UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m., inside Earl K. Long Gym.
The homestand also features matchups against Texas State on Saturday, Nov. 7 and Georgia State on Friday, Nov. 13 with first serve at 6:30 p.m.
Louisiana (5-21, 1-12 Sun Belt) enters the homestand playing its best defense the past two weeks. The Ragin' Cajuns have averaged 17-plus digs per set the last three matches and are coming off a road trip that featured a season-high 21.7 digs per set at Appalachian State followed by 18.5 per set at Georgia State.
Leading the charge has been libero Sydney Davis who averaged 6.57 digs per set on the APP-GSU road trip. Davis totaled 46 digs over seven sets and collected a career-high 27 at GSU.
The Ragin' Cajuns offense is led by Chanelle Gardner's 2.28 kills per set. The St. Martinville product is the lone Cajun with 200-plus kills on the season (214). Sara Mossakowski, limited by a lingering back injury, averages 2.19 kills per set and has totaled 147 in 67 sets.
Louisiana has a chance to reach the eighth seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, but faces a must-win situation each match of the homestand. The Cajuns will have home court advantage as they fight for a tournament berth, a place where the offense has found a better rhythm averaging 11.14 kills per set on a .188 hitting percentage.
The Ragin' Cajuns meet UT Arlington (16-9, 7-6 Sun Belt) for the first time since Sept. 18 in Arlington, Texas. A .275 hitting percentage carried UTA past Louisiana in straight sets (25-20, 25-14, 25-10) that night. The Mavericks finished with a 44-33 edge in kills, held a commanding 9.0-2.0 lead in blocks and hit above .230 each set.
The Cajuns complete another season series on Saturday against Texas State (15-11, 10-3 Sun Belt). The Bobcats won the season's earlier meeting 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-18) on Sept. 20 in San Marcos, Texas. Texas State rallied from a 24-21 deficit to capture the opening set and then rode the momentum swing to the sweep.
