Brown named to second team; Cajuns place eight total on team

NEW ORLEANS – Seniors Jamal Robinson and Dominique Tovell were among eight Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns named to the 2015 All-Sun Belt Conference Football Team that was released by the league office on Wednesday.

Robinson, a wide receiver from Slidell, La., and Tovell, a linebacker from Columbia, Miss., were each first-team selections with defensive back Savion Brown named to the second team.

Right tackle Octravian Anderson, running back Elijah McGuire, linebacker Otha Peters and defensive end Chris Prater were each named to the honorable mention team with freshman punter Steven Coutts named to the Sun Belt Conference Newcomer Team.

Robinson, a second-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2013 before being sidelined for the majority of the 2014 campaign, led Louisiana with 54 receptions on the season for 824 yards and five touchdowns. Robinson caught a career-high 12 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown against New Mexico State and added 10 catches for a career-best 188 yards with a touchdown at South Alabama.

Tovell led the Ragin' Cajuns with 79 tackles on the season including 52 solo stops. He led the team with seven sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss on the year, while breaking up three passes, forcing a pair of fumbles and adding a fumble recovery. Tovell opened the season at Kentucky with seven tackles, including a pair of sacks and five tackles for loss while adding a career-best 13 tackles against New Mexico State and 12 against ULM.

Brown, a junior from Shreveport, recorded 43 tackles (31 solo) in his first season with the Ragin' Cajuns, while adding a team-high three interceptions with six pass breakups and a fumble recovery. The junior college transfer picked off his first collegiate pass at Arkansas State before adding interceptions in consecutive games at Georgia State and South Alabama. Brown's 85-yard interception return against USA was the fifth-longest return in school history and marked the first interception returned for a touchdown since Corey Trim's 82-yard return against Tulane in the 2013 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

McGuire, a junior, finished as the Ragin' Cajuns leading rusher with 1,047 yards and 13 TDs on the season and became the second running back in school history to log consecutive 1,000-yard seasons on the ground. His 102 points scored in 2015 was the fourth-best single-season total in school history. One of two active NCAA players with 3,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving, McGuire caught 34 passes on the season with a pair of touchdowns.

Anderson, a senior from Shreveport, started every game at right tackle for the Ragin' Cajuns in 2015 and extended his streak of consecutive starts to 38 games dating back to 2013. Anderson was part of an offensive line that yielded the fourth-fewest sacks (20) in the Sun Belt Conference in 2015.

Peters, a transfer from Arkansas, started all 12 games for Louisiana and finished as the third-leading tackler (68) on the season with six stops for loss. The Covington, La., native posted double-digit tackles in games at South Alabama (13) and Arkansas State (11) and ranked 11th among all defenders during Sun Belt Conference games with 53 tackles (7.6 per game).

Prater, a senior from Starkville, Miss., posted career-highs with 26 tackles (15 solo) and three tackles for loss during the season. Prater had two stops for loss in a road win at Georgia State and recorded a career-best seven tackles in the Ragin' Cajuns regular-season finale against Troy.

Coutts, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, finished among the league leaders in punting averaging 42.4 yards per attempt with 14 punts of 50 yards or more. Coutts, who was third among all freshman punters in the nation in average, placed 22 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
