FOR STARTERS
Six games remain in the regular season and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are in the midst of jockeying for position for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament. They will look to bolster that position on Saturday when they travel to Troy to wrap up the season series with the Trojans.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns led by as much as seven points in the second half, but ULM outscored UL 24-7 in the final 10:52 to maintain sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference with a 67-55 win on Thursday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Louisiana led by three at the half and had a 48-43 advantage after a three-point play from Devonta Walker with 10:52 to play; however, the Warhawks clamped down and held the Cajuns to just three made field goals the rest of the way.
Shawn Long picked up his sixth straight double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, moving past Dion Brown for third all-time in rebounding at UL in the process. But he was the only Cajun in double figures, despite all 12 players seeing the court putting in at least one field goal.
On the other side, the Warhawks used just two reserves and got a game-high 21 points from Tylor Ongwae on their way to shooting 7-for-15 from beyond the arc and 45.1 percent from the field.
Bryce Washington pulled in seven rebounds to go with six points and Xavian Rimmer had nine points off the bench, helping the Cajuns to a 26-4 advantage from its reserves. But UL finished 37.9 percent from the floor for the night, including just 29.6 percent in the second half.
UP NEXT
Louisiana will have three of its next four games at the Cajundome, beginning Thursday when it hosts Texas State. It will then look to avenge a recent loss at UT Arlington before hosting league newcomer Georgia Southern for the first time since 199 and kicking off the month of March against UALR, who it closed out the 2014 calendar year against on Dec. 30.
• Thursday's game at ULM was just the second time this season the Cajuns have not had at least two players with 10+ points in a game this season, with Shawn Long leading in points in both games.
• Shawn Long moved past Dion Brown into third all-time in career rebounds at UL with 930 with his 13-rebound performance on Thursday at ULM.
• The Cajuns are shooting .709 from the free throw line this year, a mark that ranks second in the SBC. UL hasn't shot better than .700 as a team from the foul line since the 1993-94 team shot .716 from the stripe.
• Local sophomore Hayward Register is 13-for-28 (464) since being inserted into the starting lineup.
• Shawn Long has six straight double-doubles entering Saturday. It is the second time in his career he has put together at six straight double-doubles, matching his career high set as a freshman.
• UL's win at Texas State was also the the first time this year in 12 tries that the Cajuns have rallied from a deficit at the 5-minute mark of the game.
