Louisiana Moves Up, Remains Top 10 in National Polls

LAFAYETTE - Following a four-game sweep in the Louisiana Classics, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team moved up and remained in the Top 10 of the national polls.

Louisiana (4-0) rose to No. 7 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll, up from its No. 9 preseason rank. The Ragin' Cajuns moved up one spot, from its preseason No. 9 billing, to No. 8 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll.

In making its way through the Louisiana Classics undefeated, the Ragin' Cajuns outscored opponents 40-0 and hit .396.

Sophomore second baseman Haley Hayden led the charge at the plate hitting .583 with three home runs and seven RBI. Senior pitcher Jordan Wallace struck out 13 in her season debut, while sophomore pitcher Alex Stewart allowed only one hit and struck out 11 over six innings.

Louisiana continues its season-opening, 14-game homestand Friday-Sunday, Feb. 13-15 hosting the Mardi Gras Classic presented by Hilton Lafayette at Lamson Park. The Ragin' Cajuns are set to face Idaho State and Mississippi Valley State.
