Cajuns Head To Birmingham For Final Indoor Tuneup

Louisiana to return to Magic City for SBC Indoor on Feb. 23-24
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team makes its final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships later this month when it opens competition on Friday in the Samford Multi and Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Competition in the two-day meet begins Friday at 7 p.m., with the men's and women's high jump and the men's weight throw. The women's 200-meter dash will start at 8 p.m., with the men's 200 set for 9 p.m.

Action concludes on Saturday with field and running events scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

With the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships set for Feb. 23-24 in the same venue, Louisiana will look to put itself in position for a conference championship after several athletes have recorded stellar performances during the season.

Morgan Cormier and freshman Tyler Hughes have posted the top two marks, respectively, among Sun Belt Conference performers in the men's 60-meter hurdles with Stacy Imagbe posting the top mark in the Sun Belt Conference this season in women's long jump.

Newcomer Hanoj Carter ranks second in the men's 200-meter dash for Louisiana with Dionte Heath ranking second overall in the men's high jump.

Matt Wilson (men's pole vault), Devin Davis (men's long jump) and Ricky Theyard (men's triple jump) have each posted the third-best marks in their respective events among SBC athletes during the indoor season for the Ragin' Cajuns with Kenneth Nassar (men's shot put), William LeBlanc (men's high jump) and Matthew Rice (men's 1-mile run) ranking fourth overall.

In the women's 800-meters, Danielle Castaldi and Kelci Lyons rank second and third overall among SBC athletes with Tia Mitchell ranked third in the women's long jump and Lindsey Harmon fourth in the women's high jump. Ashley Irwin (women's 5,000-meters), Kaitlyn Moreau (60-meter hurdle) and Jasmin Fusilier (women's long jump) each rank fifth overall in their respective events for the Ragin' Cajuns.
