HUMBLE, Texas – The Louisiana golf team will be tested this weekend as the Cajuns will face some of the nation's premier collegiate teams at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, starting Friday morning on the 6,982-yard, par-72 Tournament Course layout at Golf Club of Houston.
The three-day, 54-hole event tees off with 9 a.m., starts Friday and Saturday and wraps up with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Sunday. Live scoring for the tournament is available on Golfstat.com.
"We are very excited to be here at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship," head coach Theo Sliman said. "This is a very good tournament, and I know the guys are eager and hungry to get back on the course after a poor performance last time out. This is very unique event as it is a precursor to the Shell Open, which is a PGA event, so the course will be in excellent condition. I'm glad to have Thomas Strandemo back healthy and in the lineup and look forward to a good performance from our squad."
Co-hosts No. 31 Houston and Rice join a field made up of Arkansas, No. 10 Baylor, Charlotte, Lamar, Louisiana, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Sam Houston State, No. 9 South Carolina, Southeastern Louisiana, Troy and UTSA.
Thomas Strandemo, Louis Kelly, Haraldur Magnus, Christian Verrougstaete and Fernando Cruz Valle round out the lineup for the Ragin' Cajuns. Magnus paces the squad with a 73.60 scoring average. Kelly is not far behind with a 74.06 average and has the Cajuns only tournament championship this season.
Louisiana is paired with UTSA and McNeese State for the first two rounds and will start off of hole 10.
Following the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, the Ragin' Cajuns will host the 30th annual Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club from March 2-3.
