LAFAYETTE, La. - The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team returns home after three straight matches against nationally-ranked opponents when it hosts Georgia State and Xavier (La.) at Cajun Courts on Friday.
First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. against Georgia State, followed by Xavier (La.) at 6:00 p.m. The matches are sponsored by Campus Crossings with a special thank you to general manager Caitlyn Steele. With the sponsorship, the first 50 people will receive free gumbo, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Louisiana stands at 2-5 after a difficult early season schedule to date, one that includes four nationally-ranked foes in its first seven matches, including at No. 1 USC. But this weekend will mark the first of four straight home matches for UL before going on the road for meetings with Iowa, Drake and at the HEB Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi, Texas, in early March.
Georgia State will be the first SBC opponent the Cajuns have seen this season as the Panthers enter at 1-3 on the year after a narrow 4-3 loss to Troy on Saturday.
The Cajuns have used eight players in singles play this season, with six picking up at least one victory. Freshman Vlad Kramarov still leads the way with three total wins, while junior Jake Wynan has a pair of victories at No. 1 singles play, including one over reigning SBC Player of the Year, Daniel Leitner of South Alabama.
Louisiana will get two weeks off after Saturday, next taking the court on Feb. 20 when it hosts New Orleans and Jackson State.
