LAREDO, Texas – Coming off of a third place finish at the Louisiana Classics, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to tee off Friday morning at the 2015 Border Olympics hosted by Houston at the par 72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club.

"We are very excited with the opportunity to compete at one of the oldest golf tournaments in the country," head coach Theo Sliman said. " Expectations are obviously high coming off of a third place finish at the Louisiana Classics. The key is for us is to use the momentum we gained from playing at home against the field that we did and carry it over to this event. We showed that we could play with the No. 1 team in the country. We just need to be able to do so for 54 holes.  Determination, mental toughness, patience and grit will be very important at the Laredo Country Club."

The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days with 36 holes starting Friday morning and the final 18 holes Saturday. Fans can follow live scoring by visiting Golfstat.com.

The 18-team field features three teams ranked in the GolfStat top 50 including No. 11 Baylor, No. 31 Houston and No. 47 Sam Houston State. Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Pacific, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington, Utah, UTEP and UTSA round out the field.

Haraldur Magnus, Fernando Cruz Valle, Louis Kelly, Christian Verrougstraete and J.C. Burgess will be in action for Louisiana at the event. Magnus is coming off of his seventh career top 10 finish placing in seventh at the Louisiana Classics.

The junior paces the squad with a 73.10 scoring average through 21 rounds. Cruz Valle is second on the squad with a 74.39 average, while Kelly (74.52) and Verrougstraete (74.56) are close behind.

Following the Border Olympics, the Cajuns head to the Lone Star Invitational hosted by UTSA from March 23-24 at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas.
