Louisiana Golf Finishes Ninth At Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team posted a ninth place finish carding an overall score of 9-over par (837) at the 2015 Border Olympics on Saturday at the par 72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club.
The Cajuns recorded a score of 5-over (293) in the final round of the tournament to move up one spot.
No. 13 Baylor tallied a score of 3-under (285) in the final 18 holes to claim the tournament championship at 15-under (849). No. 33 Houston (-12, 852), No. 41 Sam Houston State (-7, 857), UT Arlington (-4, 860) and Pacific (-3, 861) round out the top 5 teams.
Blair Hamilton of Houston won individual medalist honors with an overall score of 9-under (207).
Junior Haraldur Magnus notched the only top 25 finish for the Ragin' Cajuns placing in a tie for 24th at 1-over (217). The top 25 finish is the seventh of the season and 15th career for Magnus.
Christian Verrougstraete fell to a tie for 34th at 3-over (219) after carding a 77 (+4) in the final round, while Fernando Cruz Valle had the only round under par on the day for Louisiana with a 71 (-1) to finish one stroke back of Verrougstraete in a tie for 40th.
Louis Kelly and J.C. Burgess rounded out the scoring for the Cajuns on the final day. Kelly ended up in a tie for 50th at 6-over (222). Burgess a 72 (E) to close out the event in a tie for 88th at 14-over (230).
Louisiana returns to action March 23-24 at the Lone Star Invitational hosted by UTSA at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas.
