Cajuns to make second trip to postseason; first-ever trip to WBI

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team announced Monday night that it has accepted an invitation to compete in the sixth annual Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) and will host Western Athletic Conference member UT Pan American on Thursday in a 7 p.m. contest at Earl K. Long Gym.

The postseason appearance will be the second in school history for Louisiana (19-12), with its last appearance coming in the 2007 NCAA Women's Basketball Championships.

The Ragin' Cajuns are the No. 2-seed in the West Region behind Mountain West Conference runner-up New Mexico (20-10). Louisiana is one of three Sun Belt Conference teams to compete in the WBI joining Texas State (17-14), the No. 4 seed in the West Region, and Troy (20-10), the No. 5 seed in the East.

UTPA (19-14), the No. 7 seed in the West Region and making its first-ever postseason appearance, dropped a 70-52 decision to top-seeded New Mexico State in the championship game of the WAC Tournament on Saturday in Las Vegas.

The WBI is a four-round, 16-team, single-elimination bracketed tournament. All games are held at campus sites. The quarterfinals will be held on either March 21 or 22. The semifinals are scheduled for March 25 or 26. The WBI Championship Game will be contested on either March 28 or 29.

Ticket information will be announced on Tuesday.
