Cormier, Victor Claim Sun Belt Weekly Track Honors

Victor posts nation's best mark in hammer throw; Cormier earns pair of top-2 finishes
NEW ORLEANS – After helping lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team to the team title at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays, student-athletes Morgan Cormier and Justin Victor were each honored by the Sun Belt Conference on Wednesday as the league's Athletes of the Week.

Cormier, a junior from New Orleans, was named the Sun Belt Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week after earning a pair of top-two finishes in the Ragin' Cajuns outdoor opener. He claimed the individual title in the men's 110-meter hurdles after posting a time of 14.52 seconds before finishing second overall in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 53.32.

Victor, a junior from DeRidder, was named the SBC Male Field Athlete of the Week, after earning a pair of first-place finishes. The 2014 Indoor All-American posted the nation's top mark in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 219 feet, 8 inches, which set a meet and facility record. Victor added a first-place throw in the shot put (53-3 ¾), breaking his personal-best (50-3 ¼) that was set at the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships.

Louisiana will return to action on Friday when it hosts the Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Complex. The two-day meet will begin on Friday at 3 p.m. with competition in the men's and women's javelin with running events set at 6:30 p.m. The meet will conclude on Saturday with field events beginning at 9 a.m., with running events scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children aged 12 and under. Current UL students are admitted free with a valid University I.D.
