Cajuns look to continue WBI journey against in-state rival Cowgirls
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team continues its trek through the Women's Basketball Invitational on Saturday when it plays host to in-state opponent McNeese State in a 7 p.m. contest at Earl K. Long Gym.
The game can be heard in the Lafayette area on ESPN 1420-AM with live video and live statistics provided on RaginCajuns.com. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the West Region semifinals and face the winner of Monday's second-round match between top-seeded New Mexico and fifth-seeded Oral Roberts.
Louisiana (20-12), the No. 2 seed in the West Region, earned its first-ever postseason victory and notched its fourth 20-win season in school history in the process after an emphatic 78-56 win over UT Pan American in a first-round matchup on Thursday. The Ragin' Cajuns erased a six-point deficit in the first half and outscored UTPA, 53-29, in the final 20 minutes behind a blistering 20-for-28 (71.4 percent) performance from the floor.
Kia Wilridge scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures for Louisiana with freshman Simone Fields adding 14, Keke Veal 12 and Jaylyn Gordon 11. Adrienne Prejean matched season-highs for Louisiana with eight points and nine rebounds while Gabby Alexander added eight points off the bench.
McNeese State (18-13), the No. 6 seed in the West Region, opened play in the WBI with a wire-to-wire 87-70 victory over third-seeded Furman on Thursday. Jayln Johnson scored 16 points to lead the Cowgirls with Allison Baggett and Victoria Rachal scoring 13 each and Amber Donnes 11.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults with the first 500 UL students, with a valid University I.D., admitted free, courtesy of Coca Cola – the official soft drink of the Ragin' Cajuns. The first 100 students to attend will receive a free hot dog and soft drink, courtesy of Sodexo.

Cajuns Roll Into Second Round Of WBI
• Kia Wilridge scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns used a 26-6 run to pull away and defeat UT Pan American, 78-56, in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational on Thursday at Earl K. Long Gym.
• Freshman Simone Fields scored 14 points for Louisiana (20-12), which went 20-for-28 (71.4 percent) from the floor in the second half and finished with a season-high 50.9 percent mark (29-for-57) for the game.
• The win, Louisiana's first in postseason play, marked the first 20-win season for the Ragin' Cajuns since finishing 25-9 in 2006-07 and the third 20-win season in school history.
• Keke Veal added 12 points for the Ragin' Cajuns, the No. 2 seed in the West Region, with Jaylyn Gordon adding 11. Adrienne Prejean and Gabby Alexander added eight points each for Louisiana, with Prejean pulling a season-high tying nine rebounds.
A Look At McNeese State
• Sixth-seeded McNeese State advanced to the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitational with an 87-70 opening round win over third-seeded Furman on Thursday.
• The 87 points scored by McNeese (18-13) is the third highest scoring output this season. The scoring was spread amongst 11 players who scored at least two points. • Keke Veal's 12 points against UT Pan American on Thursday increased her career scoring total to 982 points, moving her closer to the 1,000-point mark.
• Veal would become the 15th player in school history to achieve the mark and the first since Mercedes Johnson (1,263 points, 2008-12).

• Jaylyn Gordon's 68 made 3-pointers in 2014-15 are the seventh-best single-season total in school history.
• Gordon's single-season 77.6 average from the free throw line is the fifth-highest total in school history.
• Kia Wilridge's 92 steals in 2014-15 are tied for the sixth-best total in a single-season. She is six steals shy of tying Mary Douglas (98, 1983-84) for fifth place.

Brodhead Enters Elite Company
• With a 78-56 win over UT Pan American in the first round of the WBI, head coach Garry Brodhead became the winningest coach in his first three years in UL history.
• Currently with 44 victories, Brodhead surpassed Ross Cook (43 wins, 1983-86) and J. Kelley Hall (43 wins, 2002-05) for the most wins in a three-year period in school history.

• Under Gary Brodhead, the Ragin' Cajuns have thrived in games that have gone past the traditional 40 minutes, including games that reach a sixth period.
• Under Brodhead, Louisiana has posted a 7-4 record in overtime games, including a 3-0 mark in games that have gone to double OT.
• The Ragin' Cajuns have gone 3-1 in overtime games this season - including double overtime wins at Texas State (1/31) and ULM (2/12).

Cajuns Match Best Start in Program History
• After their win over Southern-New Orleans, the Cajuns matched their best start in program history at 6-0.
• In 1983, the Cajuns started off the season 6-0 under first-year head coach Ross Cook, eventually recording the program's first 20-win season with a 22-6 record.
Cajuns Record Historic Win Over LaTech
• In 39 meetings, the Ragin' Cajuns had always come up short in knocking off Louisiana Tech, one of the nation's most decorated women's college basketball programs.
• However, the 40th meeting on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 was one exception.
• The Cajuns led from the beginning as they claimed a 58-55 victory over the Lady Techsters to snap their 39-game losing streak to Louisiana Tech.
• Kia Wilridge led all scorers with 18 points and a team-high five assists while Jaylyn Gordon added 15 points, shooting 3-of-6 from long range, and six boards to help Louisiana to a historic win.
• The Cajuns dominated the paint, outscoring the Lady Techsters 30-16 down low. Louisiana Tech earned nearly half of its points from the outside, shooting 8-of-25 from behind the arc.
