HEB Tournament Of Champions Bracket
LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team moved up a pair of spots in the ITA national rankings this week and will carry a No. 73 ranking into this weekend's HEB Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Cajuns enter the week having competed against six nationally-ranked opponents and seven currently in the top 75, the most in the Sun Belt Conference. Louisiana, No. 62 Troy and No. 57 South Alabama are the only SBC teams in this weeks' poll, with the Cajuns already holding a head-to-head victory over the Jaguars this season.
Louisiana's difficult slate helped the Cajuns move up from last week's No. 75 ranking despite losses at No. 29 Drake and No. 57 Iowa over the weekend. This week they will turn their attention to the HEB Tournament of Champions, entering as the highest-ranked team in the field.
Matches for the tournament will be played at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center and HEB Tennis Center. Matches will move to the HEB Tennis Center indoor courts as well as the Corpus Christi Athletic Club in case of rain.
The Cajuns will open up the tournament against New Mexico State on Friday at 9:30 a.m. before moving on to face either Southern Miss or Lamar. The Aggies enter the weekend with a 12-11 record and are coming off a season that saw them advance to the WAC Tournament finals in 2014.
Rounding out the Cajuns' half of the bracket are the Cardinals and Golden Eagles, who faced off on Feb. 27 with Lamar coming away with a 5-2 win. The Cajuns have not faced USM this season, but have dropped a narrow, 4-3, match to Lamar on Jan. 17 when the Cajuns were not at full strength.
Other teams in the field include host and defending tournament champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTSA, DePaul and Arizona.
