North Caddo standout signs grant-in-aid to play for Louisiana
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Thursday the signing of former North Caddo High guard Kadavion Evans (Vivian, La.) to a grant-in-aid for the 2015-16 season.
The addition of the 5-foot-11 Evans increased Louisiana's 2015-16 signing class to five that includes Jerekius Davis (Jackson, Miss.), Jevonlean "Jay" Hedgeman (Pearland, Texas), Larenz Stalcup (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Tyrone Wooten (Memphis, Tenn.).
Evans, who was named to the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association All-State team, averaged nearly 25 points per game despite missing much of the 2014-15 year with an injury. Evans also was named to the LHSAA Class 2A Academic All-State team.
"We had a scholarship open late and we were looking for backcourt help … a guy that could handle the ball and give us some more depth at the guard spot," Marlin said. "He had a great high school career and played for a guy at North Caddo (Ron Meikle) that worked and scouted in the professional ranks. His father (Rickey Evans) played for Kevin Johnson at Centenary, so we had a tie. We watched him all year and liked him and we had the opportunity to pick him up.
"He's got to grow physically, but he can really shoot the ball and that will get him on the court early in his time here. He's a guy that can score the basketball."
As a sophomore at Shreveport's Calvary Baptist, Evans averaged 18.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 37 percent from the floor, 35 percent from behind the 3-point line and 81 percent from the charity stripe.
Louisiana recorded a 22-14 record during the 2014-15 season that included a quarterfinal appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Ragin' Cajuns return nine letterwinners and five starters from a team that reached the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
