Baton Rouge native to have two years of eligbility remaining

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Wednesday the addition of BYU transfer Frank Bartley IV to the 2016-17 roster. Bartley, the son of former Ragin' Cajuns all-conference football player Frank Bartley III, officially enrolled for summer classes at UL that began on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound product will sit out the 2015-16 season to fulfill the NCAA Transfer Rule before having two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016-17. The Baton Rouge native played at Christian Life Academy where he helped the Crusaders to a pair of Class 1A state titles and was a teammate with current Ragin' Cajun Johnathan Stove.

"Frank is a young man that we recruited out of high school and is a strong, athletic player that can get to the basket," Marlin said. "He had a great (high school) career at Christian Life Academy and played a vital part in the success the last two years at BYU. He comes from a great family and he wanted an opportunity to come back home. We're excited that he has enrolled at UL and will join our team."

Bartley played in 67 career games at BYU, where he averaged 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds while helping the Cougars to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. As a sophomore in 2014-15, Bartley played in 33 games for the Cougars averaging 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game while helping BYU to a 25-10 record.

During his freshman season in Provo, Bartley played in 34 games where he averaged 3.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in a 23-12 year. He scored in double figures in five games on the season, highlighted by a career-high 16 points against Mount St. Mary's and 14 against Utah State.

Bartley averaged 19.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 3.3 steals in 2012-13 at Future College Prep (Carson, Calif.) where he led the team to a 52-13 record and the West Coast Prep title.
A three-year letterwinner at Christian Life Academy, Bartley led the Crusaders to a 26-7 overall record and the Class 1A state title. He named the LSWA Class 1A MVP, first-team all-state and District 7-1A co-MVP while averaging 14.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

As a junior, Bartley earned District 7-1A MVP honors and was named to the all-state and all-metro teams.
