Sanders, Junior National Team Competing In World Cup

IRVINE, Calif. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball shortstop DJ Sanders and the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team (JWNT) are scheduled to begin international competition on Monday, June 29 at the World Cup of Softball.

The World Cup of Softball is being held at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif., Monday-Sunday, June 29-July 5, hosted by Southern California ASA/USA Softball.

For Sanders, who began her collegiate career with the Ragin' Cajuns in 2015, it will be her first experience at the international level.

It's also the first time the JWNT program competes in the World Cup.

The JWNT is participating in a round robin schedule against teams from Argentina, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. The schedule also features a matchup with the USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT).

After round robin play concludes July 4, the teams will be seeded based upon results for the tournament's final games on July 5.

June 29 vs. Argentina – 6:30 p.m. (CDT)
June 30 vs. Canada – 6:30 p.m. (CDT)
July 1 vs. USA National Team – 9:00 p.m. (CDT)
July 2 vs. Puerto Rico – 6:30 p.m. (CDT)
July 3 vs. Venezuela – 6:30 p.m. (CDT)
July 4 vs. Mexico – 1:30 p.m. (CDT)
July 4 vs. Japan – 9:00 p.m. (CDT)
July 5 vs. TBA (seeded game)

After the World Cup, the JWNT travels to Hillsboro, Ore., for exhibition games on Tuesday, July 7. The squad then returns to international competition at the WBSC Junior Women's World Championship (JWWC), August 9-15 in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.
