Montoya named to Preseason All-Sun Belt Soccer Team

NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana soccer junior forward Yazmin Montoya was named to the 2015 All-Sun Belt Conference Preseason team, which is voted on by the league's 10 head coaches, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Montoya, a 2014 All-Louisiana Honorable Mention selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, enters 2015 ranked second in Ragin Cajuns history in goals (20), third in points (47) and tied for seventh in assists (7). She was an integral part of a Cajuns offense that manufactured 47 goals and 121 points a year ago, both program records. She paced the Ragin' Cajuns offense, finishing with seven goals (tied for team lead) and two assists for 16 points. Two of her seven goals proved to be game-winners.
The preseason honor is the first for the West Covina, Calif. native. She garnered First Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2013, setting the school record for goals (13) and points (31) in a single season.
Louisiana returns 25 letterwinners, including eight starters from last year's squad that produced the second-most wins (9) in a single season in Ragin' Cajuns history.
The Ragin' Cajuns were picked to finish seventh by the league's head coaches in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Poll. Louisiana received one first-place vote in the poll.
The Cajuns open the regular season at home against Sam Houston State Friday, August 21 at 6 p.m. at the Ragin Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.
