Sanders, Team USA Advance to Gold Medal Game

OKLAHOMA CITY - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball shortstop DJ Sanders and the U.S. Junior Women's National Team (JWNT) secured a spot in the Gold Medal game of the 2015 WBSC Junior Women's World Championship (JWWC) with a 14-2 (5 inn.) win over Japan Friday evening at OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City.
Sanders and her JWNT teammates are scheduled to play for the Gold at 7 p.m. on Saturday. They await the winner of Japan and Puerto Rico, who meet in the Bronze Medal contest at 4 p.m.

Team USA seeks to reclaim the Gold Medal after falling 4-0 to Japan at the 2013 WBSC JWWC in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
Sanders has started all nine games in the JWWC. The Cajuns' rising sophomore is hitting .650 (13-of-20) in tournament play with a home run, three doubles and eight RBI.
She was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI in the win over Japan Friday evening. The double brought home the first of seven runs in the fifth inning as Team USA extended a 7-1 advantage.
The United States is the only undefeated team left in the JWWC. The JWNT recorded a 7-0 record in pool play, then defeated Canada 15-0 (3 inn.) and Japan 14-2 (5 inn.) in championship bracket play to reach Saturday's Gold Medal game.
