LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team begins the 2015 regular season this weekend against a pair of Southland Conference opponents. The Cajuns host the Sam Houston State Bearkats Friday, August 21 at 6 p.m. in the season opener and will conclude the weekend with a 1 p.m. match against the Nicholls State Colonels on Sunday, August 23.Â
Head Coach Scot Wieland is embarking on his 11th season at the helm of the Ragin' Cajuns program. He returns 25 letterwinners, including eight starters. The Cajuns have won four of their past five season openers, including a 1-0 victory over the Bearkats in last season's opener in Huntsville.Â

Cajuns NotesÂ
* The Ragin' Cajuns fell, 2-0 in an exhibition matchup against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, August 15 at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer Complex.Â
* Junior defender Kimberly Grasso and sophomore midfielder Ashleigh Cade both took a team-high three shot attempts. Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Stocks made two saves, logging all 90 minutes.Â
* The Cajuns return 18 letterwinners, including Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team selection Yazmin Montoya. Fifteen of the 33 players on the roster are underclassmen.Â
* Louisiana is 6-2-0 in the all-time series against Nicholls State. Last season's match between the in-state rivals was cancelled due to rain. The most recent matchup came on Sept. 9, 2013, a 2-1 loss for the Cajuns at home.Â
* Junior forward Yamin Montoya enters the 2015 season ranked second in UL history in goals (20), third in points (47) and tied for seventh in assists (7).Â
* The Ragin' Cajuns are 5-9-1 all-time in season openers and 4-5-1 under 11th year head coach Scot Wieland. They are 4-1-0 in the last five season openers, with three of the victories coming on the road.Â
History with Sam Houston State
*Â The Cajuns are 2-0-0 all time against Sam Houston State, both wins coming in Huntsville.
* Last season, Louisiana defeated the Bearkats, 1-0 on August 22 on the road. Yazmin Montoya scored the game-winning goal in the victory.Â
* Sam Houston State was held to one goal or less in eight of its nine losses in 2014.Â
History with Nicholls State
*Â The past three matchups have ended in 2-1 finals. The Cajuns won the 2012 match.Â
* Louisiana has outscored Nicholls State 8-2 in the last three matches played in Lafayette.Â

Fan Information
Gates at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer Complex open at 5 p.m. Fans can enter the stadium at the north edge of the complex on Reinhardt Drive. Students are admitted for free with their Cajun Card. Tickets are $5 for adults and children ages 2 and over, while children under the age of 2 are admitted for free. Tickets are $3 for those accompanying a student with his or her Cajun Card.Â

The Cajuns will be on the road for the next three matches, making trips to Ole Miss (Aug. 28), Southern Miss (Aug. 30) and McNeese State (Sept. 4). Louisiana finished with a 1-1 record against McNeese State and Ole Miss in 2014.Â
