Sanders, Team USA Start World Championship Play Sunday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball shortstop DJ Sanders concludes her summer of international competition in Oklahoma City as the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team (JWNT) competes in the 2015 WBSC Junior Women's World Championship (JWWC) starting Sunday, Aug. 9 at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.
 
The Junior Women's World Championship is scheduled to run through Saturday, Aug. 15 and includes 15 of the top teams in the world, including Team USA who will look to reclaim the Gold Medal after falling 4-0 to Japan at the 2013 WBSC JWWC in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
 
Participating countries include: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and the United States..
 
All games are being streamed live at no cost to fans through the official event website. Expanded coverage begins Thursday, Aug. 13, featuring play-by-play and color commentary, in-game interviews, instant replays and unique camera shots. Visit 2015jwwc.com to watch games.
 
Tournament action begins on Sunday, Aug. 9, and is highlighted by the Opening Ceremony at 6 p.m. at OGE Energy Field. Team USA begins their "road to Gold" against Chinese Taipei immediately after the opening ceremony at 8 p.m.
 
The first four days of competition (Aug. 9-12) will feature pool play. Team USA is paired with Australia, Brazil, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico and Puerto Rico in Pool B.
 
After the completion of pool play teams will complete in playoff matchups (Aug. 13-14) with the emerging teams advancing to the medal games on Saturday, August 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Aug. 9 vs. Chinese Taipei – 8 p.m.
Aug. 10 vs. Italy – 1 p.m.
Aug. 10 vs. Australia – 7:30 p.m.
Aug. 11 vs. Brazil – 3:30 p.m.
Aug. 11 vs. Puerto Rico – 7:30 p.m.
Aug. 12 vs. Mexico – 3:30 p.m.
Aug. 12 vs. Czech Republic – 7:30 p.m.

The JWWC is the second international event for Sanders and the JWNT this summer. The group placed fifth at the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, Calif., June 29-July 5. Sanders hit .353 (6-of-17) and collected two doubles, a triple and three RBI during the World Cup appearance.
 
The JWNT is under the direction of head coach Tairia Flowers (Cal State Northridge) with assistants Trisha Ford (Fresno State), Kristie Fox (UT Arlington) and Tim Walton (Florida).
