LAFAYETTE -- The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team kicks off the 2016 spring season against Lamar at Cajun Courts this Saturday, Jan. 16.
First serve is set for 1 p.m. against the Cardinals. Saturday's match is sponsored by Bernhard Energy.
Lamar plays at the University of Texas Tuesday night before making their way to Lafayette to battle the Cajuns on Saturday.
"Lamar has a very solid team this year," Ragin' Cajuns head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "They finished second in the Southland Conference last year and they return everyone back. The top of their lineup is extremely tough with Nikita Lis and Michael Feucht leading the way for them. Our guys need to be ready to go.
"At this point in the season we are just looking to improve one day at a time," Jeffrey added. "We just focus on the hard work that our players have put in and be in the right mental state to transfer that to the courts on Saturday."
The Cajuns welcome back six returners, headlined by seniors Jake Wynan and Edgar Lopez. Last season, Lopez and junior Coleman Wahlborg were both named first team All Sun Belt Conference doubles pairs following the 2015 season.
Junior Will Huyton and freshman Arthur Libaud enter the 2016 spring season ranked sixth in the Doubles Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Southern Regional Rankings. The rankings are comprised of all NCAA Division I teams from the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
"I'm excited to get the season underway," Jeffrey said. "We had a great fall with the Cajun Tennis Classic highlighting the season."
