Women’s Tennis Begins Season on Road this Weekend

LAFAYETTE -- The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team opens their 2016 spring schedule this weekend in Texas. The Cajuns visit Incarnate Word in San Antonio on Saturday, Jan. 23 for a 10:30 a.m. first serve and will close out opening weekend at Prairie View A&M on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.
"I'm excited for these first two matches," Ragin' Cajuns head coach Stephanie Vallejos said. "They've been working hard in practice and I'm excited to see that going into competition."
Saturday will mark the season opener for both the Cajuns and Incarnate Word. The Cardinals return seniors Brianah Crrek, Antea Dedic and Taryn Strahl.
Prairie View A&M opened their spring season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, falling to the Islanders, 7-0. They play Stephen F. Austin and UTSA this Friday and Saturday, respectively, prior to Sunday's match with the Cajuns.
Louisiana returns seven players from last year's squad, led by seniors Melissa Burckhartt and Juliette Clement.
"They've kept up a good energy level and they've shown they want to come together as a team."
