Louisiana heads to Jonesboro to face Red Wolves on Saturday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Roger Woods came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points and Little Rock used a 25-12 run over the final 11:08 to earn a 77-57 Sun Belt Conference win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Thursday at Jack Stephens Center.

Lis Shoshi and Marcus Johnson, Jr., each scored 12 points and Josh Hagins added 11 as Little Rock (13-1, 3-0 SBC) outscored Louisiana (5-7, 1-2 SBC), 43-27, in the second half.

Shawn Long recorded his 60th career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but Louisiana went 9-for-34 (26.5 percent) from the floor including 2-for-20 down the stretch. The Ragin' Cajuns also went 0-for-11 from behind the 3-point line in the second half while Little Rock went 16-for-32 from the floor and 4-for-9 from long range in the final 20 minutes.

"They (Little Rock) played well and did a good job," head coach Bob Marlin said. "We outplayed them in the first half, especially in the first 15 minutes. In the second half, we miss two open 3's that could keep us right there in the game and they had guys on their bench step up and make 3's.

"We couldn't get it into Shawn as much in the second half as they collapsed on him. We've got to make shots. In the second half, once it got to about the seven-minute mark, it went downhill in a hurry."

The Ragin' Cajuns trailed 49-45 after Jay Wright scored on a layup with 12:13 remaining in the game before a 3-pointer by Johnson and a jumper by Hagins gave Little Rock a 57-45 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns went scoreless for nearly four-and-a-half minutes until a pair of free throws by Johnathan Stove cut the deficit to 57-47 with 7:46 left.

A three-point play by Long with 5:50 remaining cut the Little Rock lead to 62-52, but the Ragin' Cajuns would miss their next nine shots before Scott Plaisance scored on a putback bucket with 27 seconds remaining.

Louisiana opened the game on an 8-3 run as 3-pointers by Stove and Kasey Shepherd along with a dunk by Long gave the Ragin' Cajuns the early lead. Little Rock answered as two free throws by Mareik Isom give the Trojans a 13-12 lead with 10:57 remaining in the half.

Both teams traded leads for the remainder of the first half before Tyrone Wooten made one of two free throws that tied the game at 25-25 with 3:15 remaining. The Trojans would score the next five points to take the lead for good as Woods drained a 3-pointer and added a layup for a 30-25 lead at the 1:38 mark.

The Trojans would push their lead to 34-27 on a layup by Stetson Billings with 27 seconds left, but the Ragin' Cajuns closed the gap to 34-30 at halftime as Wright drilled a 3-pointer just before the buzzer.

Louisiana finished 19-for-59 (32.2 percent) from the floor and 4-for-24 (16.7 percent) from behind the 3-point line. Little Rock opened the first half going 12-for-38 (31.6 percent) from the floor before finishing 28-for-70 (40.0 percent) for the game.

Long, who finished 7-for-14 from the floor, increased his career scoring total to 1,916 points – one shy of tying former South Alabama star Augustine Rubit for ninth-place in Sun Belt Conference history. The senior increased his career rebounding total to 1,181, two shy of Rubit's Sun Belt Conference record.

Louisiana will continue its roadtrip when it visits Arkansas State (7-7, 3-0 SBC), a 68-65 overtime winner over ULM, on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
