Soccer To Host ULM For Senior Day

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team hosts ULM for Senior Day on Sunday in a 1 p.m. Sun Belt Conference match at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.

Louisiana (7-7-1, 3-3-1 SBC) will recognize seven seniors before the match. Live statistics and a live video stream will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

"They have all contributed in different ways," head coach Scot Wieland said of the senior class. "They have been great for their time here and they have continued on loving being Ragin' Cajuns. They are all about the program. We have a good senior class with good leadership, so that's what you want."

Louisiana, which is 9-3-2 all-time against ULM (6-7-2, 3-3-1 SBC), has won five of the last six matches against the Warhawks.

The Ragin' Cajuns rank 29th in the nation in total points with 90. Junior Ashleigh Cade is tied for first in the nation in total assists with 10.

Senior forward Mackenzie Higgins has scored eight goals on the season while senior midfielder Yazmin Montoya has scored five goals. Junior Whitney Taggart has four goals on the season, three of which were game-winning goals.

Senior Annika Schmidt, senior Natalie Newman, and junior Haley Boroch have scored three goals each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cosette Morché has seen the majority of action in goal for the Ragin' Cajuns recording 63 saves on the season.

"We have the potential to be wherever we want to be right now," Wieland said. "It's up to the girls. We have the potential to finish off in a very successful fashion."

Last week, ULM fell to Coastal Carolina, 4-0, and tied at Georgia State, 0-0. ULM won last season's meeting against the visiting Cajuns, 3-2 in double overtime on Oct. 28, 2015.

Louisiana and ULM are two of six teams currently tied for third place in the Sun Belt Conference standings with 10 points.

"It's no different than any conference game right now at this point in the season," Wieland said. "Everybody at this time of the year, no matter what conference you are in, everybody is fighting."
