Softball Takes the Field at Lamson Park on Monday

LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball will face the USSSA Pride of the National ProFastpitch (NPF) league in a fall exhibition game at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17 at Lamson Park.

Tickets for the contest can be purchased at the Cajundome Box Office from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., through TicketMaster (phone and online) and at the main entrance of Lamson Park beginning at 5 p.m. Prices are $13 for a reserved grandstand seat and $8 for general admission outfield seating.

Parking at Lamson Park is reserved for individuals who purchased a VIP Packet. General admission parking is at Cajun Field.

The game serves as the Ragin' Cajuns annual Breast Cancer Awareness event. 

There will be a game-worn jersey auction in the main concourse, a 50/50 raffle and the Ragin' Cajuns and Pride will hold a postgame autograph session.

Louisiana is currently in its second week of fall practice in preparation for the 2017 season. Monday's game is the lone contest against outside compeititon at Lamson Park this fall season.

The Ragin' Cajuns offense is led by career .360-hitter Haley Hayden and home run threats Aleah Craighton (2016 All-American) and DJ Sanders who both clubbed 18 home runs last season. All pitchers from last year's unit, which ranked Top 10 nationally in ERA, return. 2016 All-American and Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year Alex Stewart (29-6, 1.94 ERA) is joined by veterans Victoria Brown, Macey Smith and Kylee Jo Trahan, as well as sophomore Alison Deville and redshirt freshman Summer Ellyson.

The USSSA Pride is currently on the second leg of its Fall 2016 tour which includes seven stops throughout Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. After opening their tour in Michigan and Ohio in September, the Pride began the most recent part of their tour on Sunday at LSU. Following Monday night's game at Lamson Park, the squad is scheduled to visit McNeese on Tuesday. 

The South Tour roster includes 2016 NPF Player of the Year Kelly Kretschman, NCAA home run leader Lauren Chamberlain, 2015 Rookie of the Year Shelby Pendley, NCAA Player of the Year Sierra Romero, former Wolverine Lauren Sweet, 2013 Offensive Player of the Year GiOnna DiSalvatore, former Oregon Duck Courtney Ceo. The main pitching staff during the Fall Tour will include 2016 All-NPF pitcher Jolene Henderson and former WCWS Most Outstanding Pitcher Hannah Rogers.

Ragin' Cajuns alums Lexie Elkins and Nerissa Myers, both All-Americans during their time with the program, are joining the Pride on their tour of the South.

The USSSA Pride has finished regular season play in first place in the NPF standings in five of the last six years, won three NPF tournament titles (2010, 2013, 2014) and played in the championship game the past seven seasons.
 
Ragin' Cajuns Softball has won three straight Sun Belt Conference championships and 14 overall in the 16 years of league competition since 2001. The program has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 18 consecutive years and 26 times overall in the past 27 years dating back to 1990. Last season, the Ragin' Cajuns hosted an NCAA Regional at Lamson Park for the fourth time in the past five years (2012, 2014-16) and advanced to an NCAA Super Regional for the fifth straight year (2012-16).
