Wright Named To Preseason All-SBC Team; Cajuns Picked Seventh

Cajuns will host West Florida in Nov. 3 exhibition game at Blackham

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns senior guard Jay Wright was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Team while the Ragin' Cajuns were picked to finish seventh as the Sun Belt Conference released its preseason poll and all-conference team on Wednesday.
 
Wright, who was named a third-team selection, finished as the third-leading scorer and team leader in assists last season for Louisiana. The Rincon, Ga., native averaged 8.9 points, 3.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for the Ragin' Cajuns and was second on the team in both steals (36) and minutes played (939).
 
The 6-foot-1 guard scored in double figures 18 times on the season, including a stretch of eight straight and 10 of Louisiana's first 12 games.
 
Louisiana, which finished 19-15 last season, returns three starters for seventh-year coach Bob Marlin. Wright, Bryce Washington and Johnathan Stove return to lead the Ragin' Cajuns with BYU transfer Frank Bartley, returning veteran Scott Plaisance, redshirt freshmen Jerekius Davis and Kadavion Evans, and newcomers Justin Miller, P.J. Hardy, Roydell Brown and Larenz Stalcup battling for playing time.
 
UT Arlington was picked to finish first in the SBC Preseason Poll with defending champion Little Rock, Georgia State and Georgia Southern to follow. Newcomer Coastal Carolina was picked to finish fifth with South Alabama, Louisiana, ULM, Troy, Arkansas State, Appalachian State and Texas State next.
 
Louisiana will host West Florida in an exhibition game on Nov. 3 at Blackham Coliseum before opening the season on Nov. 11 at Minnesota. The Ragin' Cajuns will play four games at Blackham Coliseum before returning to the newly refurbished Cajundome on Dec. 1 against Nicholls State.
