Soccer On The Road For Final Weekend Of Sun Belt Conference Play

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team is set for its final weekend of Sun Belt Conference matches on the pitch.

Louisiana (8-7-1, 4-3-1 SBC) faces Appalachian State (7-7-2, 2-4-2 SBC) on Friday in a 6 p.m. CDT match at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Boone, N.C. The Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up the weekend on Sunday when they travel to play league-leader Coastal Carolina (10-5-2, 6-2-1 SBC) in an 11 a.m. CDT match.

Junior defender Ashleigh Cade leads the Sun Belt Conference and is currently third in the nation in total assists with 10.

Senior forward Mackenzie Higgins has scored eight goals on the season – tied for the most in the Sun Belt Conference – while senior midfielder Yazmin Montoya has scored five goals. Senior Natalie Newman and junior Whitney Taggart have scored four goals each.

Senior Annika Schmidt and junior Haley Boroch have scored three goals each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cosette Morché has recorded 69 saves on the season (fourth in the Sun Belt Conference) while ranking third in the league in saves per match (5.75).

Louisiana, which is 1-1 all-time against Appalachian State, fell to the Mountaineers last season, 2-1, in Lafayette on Oct. 18, 2015.

Last week, Appalachian State defeated Georgia Southern, 3-2, in Statesboro, Ga.

Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series against Louisiana, 1-0. This is the first meeting between the two teams since Aug. 31, 2003.

This past week, Coastal Carolina fell at South Alabama, 4-1, and defeated South Carolina State, 3-0.
