LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletics Department and Oakbourne Country Club have partnered to build a new facility at Oakbourne, Director of Athletics Scott Farmer announced on Tuesday.

The project encompasses two separate buildings including a 2,500-square foot state-of-the-art hitting facility with three hitting bays that will be used to analyze swing mechanics and allows for inclement weather practices. The hitting facility will be shared jointly with Oakbourne Country Club and Ragin' Cajuns golf.

The second building is also a 2,500-square foot facility that will house coaches offices, a team locker room, showers, and restrooms. The facility will also feature a lobby area that will allow the program to showcase the rich history of the Ragin' Cajuns Golf program.

"This agreement further enhances the long-standing relationship between Oakbourne Country Club and the University. This outstanding facility will provide the coaches another recruiting tool to attract elite golfers and will provide the current student-athletes a facility to meet, practice, and become better golfers," Farmer said. "This was a collaborative effort of Oakbourne Country Club, the UL Foundation, the Ragin' Cajuns Athletics Foundation (RCAF), and the University. The vision, passion, and support from all parties was instrumental in making this project a reality and moving it from a Tier 3 project within the Athletics Facilities Master Plan to one of the projects in Tier 2."

"For the Ragin' Cajuns the 'Future is Now'. This Golf Indoor Teaching Facility will enhance our recruiting and provide an opportunity for our student-athletes to receive very specific and individual instructions, coupled with the ability to practice any time on any day regardless of weather," Head Golf Coach Theo Sliman said.

"Our Cajun culture embodies a sense of community.  The generosity and efforts by all will continue this tradition. This facility will allow the golf team to continue to build an elite NCAA Golf program, and will help take Ragin' Cajuns Golf to the next level."

Oakbourne Country Club is the current host site of the Louisiana Classics Golf Tournament which attracts some of the top teams in the country annually. The 32nd annual Louisiana Classics is set for Feb. 27-28, 2017.

"Oakbourne is excited to continue its support of the Ragin' Cajuns golf program," President of Oakbourne Joe Giglio said. "This state-of-the-art practice facility will foster the growth of the UL golf team and will also provide Oakbourne members with the latest technology in lessons and club fitting services. This is a win-win for everyone involved."

The new golf facility was made possible by the generosity of many donors with lead gifts coming from Brad Mosing and matched by his father Don Mosing. The Vermilion Links (UL Golf Booster Club, composed of golf alumni and friends of the Ragin' Cajuns golf program) was also instrumental in funding the project which will cost an estimated $800,000 with the length of the agreement spanning forty years.

"These generous donors allowed the Tier 3 Athletics Facilities Master Plan Project to start ahead of schedule and be moved up on the University's project list to improve athletic facilities and provide student-athletes with the tools necessary to compete at the highest levels of NCAA competition," Farmer said.  "I would like to thank Brad Mosing and his father Don Mosing, as well as the Oakbourne Country Club and all donors that made this project possible. I would also like to thank Dr. Savioe and all of those on campus who were instrumental in making this a reality. We are excited about what it will do for our golf program."

Ground breaking for the facility has been tentatively set for Oct. 24 with the project to be completed in the spring of 2017. The facility will be located at the entrance of Oakboune Country Club adjacent to the driving range.
