Ragin' Cajuns Set To Host Battle On The Bayou

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team returns to action beginning Friday when it plays host to the Battle on the Bayou Tournament at the Culotta Tennis Center.

Admission to the two-day event is free. Louisiana will be joined in the five-team event by Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama, plus regional programs Southern Miss, New Orleans and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Action begins with doubles play at 8:30 a.m., with the first round of singles play set for 11:30 a.m. The weekend tournament is the first for the Ragin' Cajuns since hosting the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic on Sept. 22-25 that featured players from seven of the top-35 teams in the country.

"You look at the teams that are coming in, with three teams ranked in the (ITA) top-75 and it's not going to be a drop in level at all," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "We're going to be playing some very competitive matches and the good thing about this is that the kids are going to be getting four singles matches over the weekend and three in doubles.

"There's going to be a lot of tennis for them, and they're going to get better after the weekend."

Louisiana's Pearse Dolan, the No. 3 overall seed, will be joined in the Flight 1 singles bracket by Eric Perez, Vlad Kramarov and Coleman Wahlborg. Michael Kritzinger, Jamie Fraser and Silvio Cocito-Monoc will compete in Flight 2 singles at 11:30 a.m.
