Soccer Prepares For Busy Weekend Of Sun Belt Play

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team is set for a busy weekend of Sun Belt Conference matches on the pitch.

Louisiana (6-6-1, 2-2-1 SBC) hosts Arkansas State (3-6-3, 1-4-1 SBC) on Friday in a 7 p.m. match at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility. The Cajuns will wrap up the weekend on Sunday when they travel to play South Alabama (9-2-1, 4-0-0 SBC) in a 1 p.m. match.

Louisiana, which is 10-7 all-time against Arkansas State, has won three of the last four matches against the Red Wolves.

The Ragin' Cajuns rank 21st in the nation in total points with 83. Junior Ashleigh Cade is tied for first in the nation in total assists with nine.

Senior forward Mackenzie Higgins has scored eight goals on the season while senior midfielder Yazmin Montoya has scored four goals. Senior Annika Schmidt, senior Natalie Newman, and junior Whitney Taggart have scored three goals each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cosette Morche and freshman Mackenzie Lee have seen the majority of action in goal for the Ragin' Cajuns with Morche recording 51 saves on the season.

Arkansas State split a pair of matches last week, falling to Little Rock, 0-2, and defeating Appalachian State, 3-0. Louisiana won last season's meeting with Arkansas State, 1-0, in Jonesboro, Ark. on Oct. 9, 2015.

South Alabama leads the all-time series against Louisiana, 9-3-5, and has defeated the Cajuns in three of the last four meetings. In the last regular season meeting, South Alabama defeated Louisiana, 2-1 in double overtime in Lafayette on Oct. 2, 2015.
