BATON ROUGE, La. – After a slow start in the first round, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team bounced back in the afternoon to move up five spots during the second round into a tie for seventh at 35-over par (611) on the first day of the David Toms Intercollegiate on Saturday at the par-72, 7,220-yard University Club.

"It was another tough day on the course for the team," head coach Theo Sliman said. "We have to learn how to start better and not put ourselves in a hole each time out. I was proud of the way the guys responded in the second round. This is a course that is not very forgiving and can test you mentally. We still have a great opportunity in front of us tomorrow. We need to go out and finish out the tournament strong."

The Cajuns are tied with Southern Illinois for seventh and are just two strokes back of the top 5. Host LSU leads the event with a 36-hole score of 5-under (571). North Texas (+17, 593), McNeese (+18, 594), South Alabama (+21, 597) and Louisiana Tech (+33, 609) round out the top 5 teams.

Brandon Pierce, Luis Gagne and Nathan Jeansonne of LSU are in a three-way tie for first on the individual leaderboard with a score of 2-under (142).

Freshman Aron Juliusson paced Louisiana on the first day of the David Toms Intercollegiate as he sits in a tie for 24th at 7-over (151).

Ragnar Gardarsson and Fernando Cruz Valle are two strokes back of Juliusson in a tie for 33rd at 9-over (153). Gardarsson carded birdies in three of his final four holes to move up the leaderboard 18 spots in the second round.

Triston Elston is in a tie for 47th after 36 holes at 13-over (157), while Grant Welch sits in a tie for 56h at 16-over (160). Thomas Strandemo rounded out the scoring for the Ragin' Cajuns in 66h place at 20-over (164).

Louisiana is paired with Southern Illinois and Penn for the final round. Play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring for the final round is available on Golfstat.com.
