Cajuns Score Early and Often In Rout Of Panhandle State

Louisiana records largest margin of victory in school history
LAFAYETTE – Bryce Washington recorded his second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds, as he led five players in double figures and helped the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team to a record-setting 117-47 rout of Panhandle (Okla.) State in the home opener on Thursday at Blackham Coliseum.
Freshman Roydell Brown scored 15 points off the bench for Louisiana (1-2) with Frank Bartley adding 12 points, Johnathan Stove 11 and Larenz Stalcup 10. The 70-point margin of victory was the largest in school history for the Ragin' Cajuns, eclipsing a 116-49 victory over St. Leo on Feb. 19, 1972.
Louisiana shot a blistering 65.8 percent (25-for-38) from the floor in the first half as the Ragin' Cajuns opened the game on a 27-9 run just over seven minutes into the game. A bucket by Stove with 7:14 remaining opened a 20-0 run for the Ragin' Cajuns that turned a 36-20 contest into a 56-20 rout.
Brown, a freshman from New Orleans, finished 6-for-6 from the floor that included three first-half dunks, with his last bucket giving the Ragin' Cajuns a 65-25 lead heading into intermission.
Louisiana scored the first 15 points to open the second half and held Panhandle State (2-1) scoreless until a jumper by Riyadh Asad with 15:06 left gave the Ragin' Cajuns an 80-27 lead.
All 13 players who played for Louisiana played at least nine minutes and recorded at least two buckets. Justin Miller added nine points for the Ragin' Cajuns with Jay Wright adding eight, Kadavion Evans seven, P.J. Hardy six and Mason Aucoin six.
Louisiana held a decisive 55-19 advantage on the glass as Washington tied a career-high with Jerekius Davis recording eight rebounds and Scott Plaisance pulling a career-high seven boards.
The Ragin' Cajuns outscored OPSU, 76-10, in the paint and scored 34 points off 24 Aggie turnovers.
Jaedon Whitfield scored 13 points to lead OPSU, which shot 16-for-61 (26.2 percent) for the game and 7-for-31 (22.6 percent) from behind the 3-point line.
Louisiana will return to action on Monday (Nov. 21) when it faces Delaware State as part of the six-team Hardwood Showcase at Blackham Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
