LAFAYETTE – Simone Fields recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team defeated LSU Alexandria 101-55 in an exhibition game on Monday at Blackham Coliseum.
Jaylyn Gordon scored a team-high 20 points for Louisiana and Danyale Bayonne added 14 points coming off the bench. The Ragin' Cajuns went 37-for-77 from the floor and 23-for-28 from the free throw line as they led by as many as 49 points.
Fields, who was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Team, finished 8-for-12 from the floor. The junior scored twelve points and grabbed eight rebounds in the first half.
Louisiana took the lead at 15-14 with 4:14 left in the first quarter when Jasmine Thomas' layup sparked a 15-1 run for the Cajuns to close out the first quarter.
Sylvana Okde connected on a three-pointer with 3:46 remaining in the second quarter to give the Cajuns a 45-21 lead. Thomas added a layup and free throw with 10 seconds left until halftime to give Louisiana a 52-26 lead heading into the locker room.
The Cajuns and Generals traded baskets for the opening five minutes of the third quarter before Brittney Myles' layup with 4:35 left in the third quarter started a 16-3 run that gave Louisiana a 79-37 lead at the end of the third period.
Louisiana outscored LSU Alexandria 22-18 in the final quarter to secure the win for the Cajuns.
Katie Lemieux led LSUA with 13 points while Bianca Harvey and Luv Blackburn added 10 points each. Harvey had seven rebounds for the Generals, who finished 20-for-61 from the floor and 11-for-18 from the free throw line.
Louisiana will officially open the season on Nov. 12 when it visits Southland opponent McNeese at Burton Coliseum.
