Dillon Named To USA Today Freshman All-America Team

Redshirt freshman recorded six sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss in inaugural season
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns defensive lineman Joe Dillon picked up his second honor of the 2016 season when he was named to the USA Today Sports Freshman All-America Team on Sunday.

Dillon, a redshirt freshman, played in all 12 games during the regular-season for Louisiana and finished as the top lineman in tackles (49) while leading the team in sacks (6.0) and tackles for loss (11.5). The second-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection came onto the scene against Tulane with six tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks before recording a season-high 10 tackles with a sack at New Mexico State.

The Tylertown, Miss., native added five tackles, with four stops for loss and a sack at Texas State, and added sacks in games against McNeese State and Appalachian State.

Dillon is the first Freshman All-America for Louisiana since Elijah McGuire was named to the FWAA Freshman All-America Team in 2013.

Louisiana (6-6) will compete in the 2016 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 17, against Southern Miss in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
