Cajuns Set To Host Houston In Annual Education Game

LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team hosts Houston on Wednesday for the Third Annual Education game.
Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. at the Cajundome. Live video and live statistics are available at RaginCajuns.com with the game being broadcast in the Lafayette area on ESPN 1420 AM and worldwide courtesy of Radio Pup.
Louisiana (4-2), which is coming off an 87-57 win over Southern-New Orleans on Saturday, is led in scoring by senior guard Jaylyn Gordon (19.6 ppg). Gordon leads the Sun Belt Conference in points per game, three-point field goals made per game (2.8), and minutes played per game (38.8).
Junior forward Simone Fields is fourth in the league in scoring (15.5 ppg) and fifth in total rebounds per game (8.5). Freshman guard Jasmine Thomas is averaging 10.7 ppg while junior forward Nekia Jones (6.0 ppg) saw her first action of the season on Saturday.
Senior Gabby Alexander (5.7 ppg), junior Jodi Quinn (5.5 ppg) and junior Troi Swain (5.5 ppg) all have seen significant playing time for the Cajuns.
Houston (4-5) is coming off a 53-51 win over Rutgers on Saturday. The Cougars are members of the American Athletic Conference and are coached by Ronald Hughey, who is in his third season as head coach.
Houston won last season's meeting against Louisiana, 52-51, on Nov. 22, 2015 in Houston, Texas. The Cougars are led in scoring by junior guard Chyanne Butler (10.5 ppg), Angela Harris (9.6 ppg), Jasmyne Harris (8.0 ppg) and Serithia Hawkins (8.0 ppg).
Hawkins leads Houston with 8.6 rebounds per game while Harris is averaging 6.4 boards per contest.
Louisiana returns to action on Monday, Dec. 19 when it hosts Southeastern Louisiana at 6 p.m. inside the Cajundome. The Ragin' Cajuns then conclude their five-game homestand on Thursday, Dec. 22 hosting Louisiana Tech in a 7 p.m. contest.
