Jonesboro, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team scored 35 points in the fourth quarter on the way to defeating Arkansas State 80-72 on Saturday at the Convocation Center.

Louisiana (7-4, 1-1 SBC) picked up its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season behind 21 points from both Jaylyn Gordon and Jasmine Thomas while Simone Fields added 19 for the Cajuns.

Arkansas State (3-11, 1-1 SBC) trailed by as many as nine points in the second quarter, but outscored the Cajuns 19-9 in the third period to take a 53-45 lead at the end of the third frame.

The Red Wolves led 62-53 with 6:43 left in the game when Dominique Oliver made two free throws.

The Cajuns then went on a 10-0 run to take a 63-62 lead after Thomas made two free throws with 4:18 remaining in the contest.

"Jasmine has really stepped up for a freshman to come in," head coach Garry Brodhead said. "The last couple games she has really scored and taken care of the ball and done some really good things."

Gordon knocked down a three-pointer to give Louisiana a 68-64 lead with 3:21 to go in the game. The teams traded baskets until Gordon sank her third three-pointer to give the Cajuns a 75-70 lead with 1:15 left in the game.

Louisiana made five-of-six free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

"We were able to get some scores off turnovers," Brodhead said. "Our kids keep playing. We continue to play hard and fight through adversity or whatever happens and that's what they did."

The Cajuns led 21-12 at the end of the first period and held a 36-34 lead at halftime.

The Red Wolves began the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 44-38 lead with 5:36 remaining in the third quarter.

Arkansas State was led by freshman guard Tahlon Hopkins with a season-high 18 points. Jada Ford scored 12 points while Brittany Fowler and Oliver each added 10 points for the Red Wolves.

Louisiana will host ULM on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Cajundome. The Cajuns will then host Georgia State on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
