Game gives fans chance to attend basketball, football games in Crescent City

LAFAYETTE – Officials from both the University of New Orleans and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns announced on Monday that the scheduled men's basketball game on Dec. 17 between the in-state schools at Lakefront Arena will start at 2 p.m.

The decision to change the game time, which was originally set for 6 p.m., was reached by administrators from both schools in order to accommodate the Ragin' Cajuns football team's appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, which will kick off the same day at 8 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and UNO's travel schedule that includes a Dec. 19 game at Utah State.

The game against New Orleans, a member of the Southland Conference, will be televised by Cox Sports Television.

"We are very thankful for the cooperation between (UNO Director of Athletics) Derek Morel, the University of New Orleans, along with Cox Sports Television for making this change possible," Interim Director of Athletics Dr. Jessica Leger said. "With the Ragin' Cajuns football team playing on Saturday night in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, this will give our fans the ability to support both of our teams during their visit to the Crescent City."

Louisiana, which has won its last six games, hosts Loyola of New Orleans (Dec. 7) and Louisiana Tech (Dec. 10) at the Cajundome before traveling to face Georgia (Dec. 14) and UNO (Dec. 17) in non-conference action.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Privateers – former rivals in the Sun Belt Conference – will meet for the second consecutive year with Louisiana claiming a 79-69 last season at the Cajundome. Louisiana has won the last three meetings in the series.

"We are grateful for the collaboration with our Lakefront Arena colleagues as well as Cox Sports Television, the Southland Conference and UL Lafayette officials to make this change possible," UNO Director of Athletics Derek Morel said. "Being that the University of New Orleans and UL Lafayette are both members of the University of Louisiana system, it has certainly made this process a lot easier."
