MOBILE, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team was unable to capitalize on a strong opening round as the Cajuns finished the first day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in 12th place after posting a 36-hole score of 15-over par (591) on Monday. The event is being played at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.

"Today was a disappointing up and down Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde kind of day," head coach Theo Sliman said. "The team showed up this morning very poised and ready for the days challenge, producing a solid morning round. In the afternoon, we fell flat and struggled most of the day. We have a great opportunity to improve our position and spark some momentum heading into our home event next week."

Louisiana opened the day with a round of 2-over (290) which put the squad in a tie for fifth place, but an afternoon round of 13-over (301) saw the Cajuns slip into 12th overall.

No. 4 Auburn leads the way with a blistering two-round score of 16-under (560). Chattanooga (-8, 568), Georgia State (-2, 574), No. 2 Wake Forest (-1, 575) and Kansas State (+1, 577) round out the top 5 teams.

Auburn's Michael Johnson sits atop the individual leaderboard with a score of 10-under (134).

Junior Fernando Cruz Valle paces the Ragin' Cajuns in a tie for 18th with a 36-hole score of even par (144). Cruz Valle posted a 71 (-1) in the first round and then had just one blemish on his card in the afternoon round.

Both Haraldur Magnus and Ross Davis finished the day in a tie for 40th at 4-over (148). Andres Navarrete and Triston Elston cap the scoring for Louisiana with Navarrete in a tie for 69th at 10-over (154) and Elston in 73rd at 13-over (157).

The Cajuns are paired with Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee for the final round. Due to incoming weather, the format for Tuesday has been changed with play getting underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring for the tournament is available on Golfstat.com.

Following the final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, Louisiana will return home for the 31st Annual Louisiana Classics hosted at Oakbourne Country Club Feb. 29-March 1.
