MOBILE, Ala. -- Despite a game-high 26 points from senior Keke Veal and a double-double from sophomore Simone Fields, the Cajuns couldn't overcome a slow first half start, falling, 68-59 at South Alabama Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Cajuns record to 18-9 and 11-7 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Cajuns were held to 31.9% shooting (22-of-69) from the floor and deposited just 2-of-12 shots from three-point range.

Louisiana's largest lead stood at three points at 3-0 and 5-2 in the early stages of the first quarter.

The Jaguars offense went on a 12-2 scoring surge over the next 3:16 to open a 14-7 lead. The Cajuns pulled to within four points by the end of the first quarter courtesy of a three-point play from Fields.

The game was evened at 16-16 following a pair of free throws from senior Brooklyn Arceneaux with 7:57 left in the second quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Cajuns made a late run, outscoring the Jaguars, 16-5 through nearly 8 ½ minutes. Veal's three-pointer with 1:32 left in the game forced the Jaguars to take timeout.

Following the timeout, South Alabama closed the game with a mini 5-0 run, with three of those points coming from Daniels (all from the free throw line).

The Cajuns converted seven South Alabama fourth quarter turnovers into 12 points, sparking the late comeback attempt.
