Cajuns Head To Birmingham For Jaguar Invitational

First of two straight meets for Cajuns in Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will venture to the Birmingham Crossplex for the first of two consecutive meets this season as they will compete on Sunday at the Jaguar Invitational.

The meet, hosted by South Alabama, will begin with the women's high jump at 12:15 p.m. and continue until the conclusion of the 4x400-meter relays, which are set to begin at 5:45. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana, which will return to Birmingham for the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23, will be joined by host USA, along with men's and women's teams from Alabama State, Arkansas State, Kennesaw State, Little Rock, ULM, McNeese State, New Orleans, Northwestern State, Samford, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern and Troy. The field will also include Florida A&M's men as well as women's squads from UAB, Georgia State and North Alabama.

The Ragin' Cajuns competed last week at the 2016 Cameron Communications McNeese Invite, winning five individual titles in the non-scoring meet.

Danielle Castaldi (800-meters), Hannah Siegmund (400-meters) and Amie Leitko (weight throw) each earned victories for Louisiana in women's events with Tristan Whitehall (shot put) and Kyle Baudoin (pole vault) claiming individual titles in men's competition.

Also slated to compete for Louisiana is Ricky Theyard, who claimed Sun Belt Conference men's field athlete of the week honors. Theyard posted a personal-best mark of 50 feet, 1 ¾ inches in the triple jump – the second-best mark among SBC athletes during the indoor season.

Three members of the Ragin' Cajuns – Tyler Hughes, Angus Sinclair and Whitehall – all have posted top marks in their respective events among Sun Belt Conference athletes. Hughes converted mark of 8.12 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles is a personal best, while Whitehall's throw of 59-4 in the shot put is nearly four feet better than the nearest SBC athlete. Sinclair, a transfer for the Ragin' Cajuns, captured the men's heptathlon title at the ASU Invitational two weeks ago with 5,048 points.

Sprinters Jeryl Brazil (6.70, 60-meter dash) and Hanoj Carter (21.56, 200-meter dash) are scheduled to compete after posting the second-fastest marks in their respective events among Sun Belt Conference athletes this season, with Courtney Musgove (18:03.55) posting the third-fastest time in the women's 5,000-meter run.

Baudoin, Beau Robinson (14:55.20, 5,000-meters), Dionte Heath (6-8, high jump) and Franz Beyer (6-7 ¾, high jump) are currently ranked in the top-5 among Sun Belt Conference men's athletes in their respective events with Alena Hrusoci (57.41, 400-meters), Jasmin Fusilier (8.79, 60-meter hurdles; 40-0, triple jump) and Taylor Walker (39-9 ¾, triple jump) ranked in the top-5 among women's athletes.
