SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to open the 2016 spring slate as the squad tees off Monday at the Oak Hills Invitational hosted at the par-71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club.
Â
Play gets underway at 8 a.m. on Monday with a shotgun start for the first and second rounds. The third and final round will get underway at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday with play starting off of holes one and ten.
Â
"We are very excited to get on the road and compete in our first event of the spring," head coach Theo Sliman said. "San Antonio has been a fixture in our schedule due to multiple reasons, the course mirrors one of our home courses, Oakbourne, and the tournament has a strong field. We also have some very supportive alumni that live in the San Antonio area.
Â
"We have a great opportunity this week, and I am anxious to see how the team handles the week as the start to the challenge of the spring season."
Â
Host UTSA, No. 44 Baylor, Houston Baptist, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, North Texas, No. 13 Oklahoma, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Texas State, Tulsa, UMKC and Wichita State make up the 15-team field.
Â
Haddi Magnus, Fernando Cruz Valle, Christian Verrougstraete, Ragnar Gardarsson and Paul San make the start for the Cajuns. Magnus had four top 10 finishes in the fall including three top 5 performances.
Â
Magnus has a team-best 71.14 average this season, while Cruz Valle is second on the team with a 72.50 average.
Â
The Cajuns are paired with McNeese State, UMKC and Wichita State for the first two rounds. Live scoring is available on Golftstat.com.
