ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Central Florida on Sunday afternoon.
Central Florida took both doubles matches over the Cajuns (3-3). Chris Barrus and Inaki Espindola defeated UL junior Eric Perez and senior Edgar Lopez, 6-2. In No. 2 doubles, Central Florida's Tyler Pate and Jose Sangroniz knocked off Louisiana's junior Will Huyton and freshman Arthur Libaud, 6-3.
Louisiana's lone singles point came at the No. 6 spot where Perez came away victorious over Reece Acree, 6-1, 6-1. The 2, 4 and 5 singles points went to the Golden Knights. Espindola defeated Cajuns freshman Michael Kritzinger, 6-4, 6-3, while Mariano Porter defeated sophomore Vlad Kramarov, 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets. Nico De Fraia took No. 5 singles over Huyton by a 6-3, 6-1 final.
"When you are playing on the road, it's vital to be able to compete for that first point in doubles," Ragin' Cajuns head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "This is something we need to improve upon. I felt like we matched UCF in singles - the key point was the doubles point."
The Cajuns next opponent is North Florida. The two teams will face off in Jacksonville this Tuesday, Feb. 9 for a 2 p.m. (CST) first serve.
