SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team carded a 36-hole score of 41-over par (609) on Monday to finish the first day of the Oak Hills Invitational in 14th place. The tournament is being played at the par-71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club.
Â
"It was a pretty frustrating day," head coach Theo Sliman said. "Obviously the scores are high due to some tough weather and firm conditions, however, that is no excuse. A handful of solid teams put up some good scores. We played very poorly in the morning and did not handle the days adversity the way we should of. I take full responsibility on not having this team ready mentally for the first day of our spring season.
Â
"We are a good competitive team that did not show up today and that is not acceptable. I have full confidence that we will have a positive day tomorrow, and I believe in my team and know that they are capable of performing at a high level."
Â
No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 44 Baylor are tied for the lead at 7-over (575). Louisiana Tech (+18, 586), McNeese State (+22, 590) and Southeastern Louisiana (+23, 591) round out the top 5 teams.
Â
Baylor's Freddy Andersen sits atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 2-under (140).
Â
Senior Haraldur Magnus paced the Cajuns with a 36-hole score of 7-over (149) to finish in a tie for 26th, while Fernando Cruz Valle finished one stroke back in a tie for 34th after carding a 71 (E) in the second round.
Â
Louisiana is paired with Tulsa and Southern Miss for the final round with play getting underway at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
