Cajuns to hold annual Pro Day on Wednesday
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team opened its second week of spring practice on Tuesday as the team worked out for over two hours at the Ragin' Cajuns Practice Facility.
Â
After spending the past two workouts inside due to last week's heavy rain, Louisiana continued to install portions of its offensive scheme with quarterbacks Jordan Davis and Chris Weaver sharing the majority of snaps. Running backs Jordan Wright and Darius Hoggins spent the majority of time in the backfield for the Ragin' Cajuns with Elijah McGuire still playing with the Louisiana men's basketball team, and Jalen Nixon sidelined with a foot injury.
Â
"The quarterbacks are throwing the ball really well," head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "The game is moving a little fast for them, they've got to continue slowing that down. I like the way they're spinning the ball.
Â
"I'm anxious to get (Elijah) McGuire and (Jalen) Nixon back out to really get a good evaluation of those guys and the offense with them in it. Everybody has looked good because we haven't scrimmaged yet … we'll know a lot more after our first scrimmage."
Â
With three offensive line starters – Mykhael Quave, Donovan Williams and Octravian Anderson – gone to graduation, redshirt freshman Robert Hunt has made a push to earn a starting job as he spent much of the day at left guard.
Â
"He's a super-athletic kid to be that size," Hudspeth said of the 6-foot-5, 330-pound redshirt freshman. "He moves well. We're trying to force feed him right now because we think he has the ability to be a starter."
Â
Louisiana will hold its annual Pro Day on Wednesday, beginning at 2 p.m. at both the Student-Athlete Performance Center and Moncla Indoor Facility before returning to practice on Thursday at 3 p.m.
