San Shines On First Day Of UTSA/Lone Star Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns sophomore Paul San carded 10 birdies to finish the first day of UTSA/Lone Star Invitational in a tie for second on a windy Monday at the par-72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
 
San posted a two-round score of 1-under par (143) fueled by a first round 69 (-3), one of only four rounds in the 60s carded on the day. The Petaling Jaya, Malaysia native is tied with Gustavo Morantes of New Mexico and is three strokes back of Tee-k Kelly of Ohio State for the individual lead.
 
No. 50 New Mexico leads the tournament with a 36-hole score of 3-over par (579) after tallying the only team score under par in the second round. North Texas (+19, 595), Rice (+21. 597), UTSA (+23, 599) and UTEP (+27, 603) round out the top 5 teams.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns finished the day in 15th place with a two-round score of 41-over (617).
 
Both Haraldur Magnus and Fernando Cruz Valle sit one stroke back of the top 25 in a tie for 28th with a score of 7-over (151).
 
Louisiana is paired with New Mexico State, Texas State and Miami (Ohio) in the final round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
